Actor Anirban Bhattacharya is excited about his directorial debut Mandaar which will be showcased in the Bengali-language streaming platform Hoichoi’s recently launched ‘World Classics’ category. Starring theatre actor Debasish Mondal and Sohini Sarkar, Mandaar is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth.
In the series, Mondal will play the titular character while Sarkar will be seen as Laili, a version of Lady Macbeth. In the recently released theatrical teaser, Mandaar is seen committing murder in maddening rage.
Speaking of his directorial venture, Bhattacharya said, “Creating an adaptation that is based on a work of this stature has given me a rollercoaster of emotions. I felt supremely excited as well as immensely fearful when I initially decided to take on Macbeth and shape it through my lenses and present it as my first ever directorial project.”
Bhattacharya, who has primarily been a theatre actor for years, will also be seen in a crucial role in the series, alongside Debesh Roy Chowdhury. “Now, when I see what came out of this attempt of mine, I feel nothing but gratitude towards everything and everyone who made Mandaar what it is today. I’m really looking forward to its release,” he said.
Mandaar will be streamed on Hoichoi in November.
