After breaking the record for highest opening for a Punjabi movie, that too with pandemic-induced curbs on cinema halls still in place, Honsla Rakha was expected to do very well in its first weekend in theatres and that is exactly what has happened, according to trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.
Starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sonam Bajwa and Shehnaaz Gill, the film had opened on Friday with Rs2.55 crore nett. Its Saturday collection was a bit lower at Rs2.30 crore but still good enough. And then the collection saw a jump on Sunday with a figure of Rs2.80 crore nett.
Directed by Amarjit Singh Saron, Honsla Rakh ended its first weekend in cinemas with Rs7.65 crore. This is the highest collection recorded by a Punjabi movie after the pandemic struck.
It must be remembered that cinema halls in Punjab are still not allowed to operate at full occupancy and there are some restrictions on night shows too. According to BoxOfficeIndia.com, without these restrictions, Honsla Rakh would probably have recorded the best first-weekend collection for a Punjabi film ever.
That record is currently held by Shadaa (2019), another Diljit Dosanjh starrer which made Rs9.25 crore in its first three days. The opening-collection record that Honsla Rakh broke also belonged to Shadaa.
Honsla Rakh has also done well in overseas markets with a collection that is said to be between $1.1 million and $1.2 million.
