The motion poster also revealed that the film is written by Shaktimaan, the same person who wrote the first movie. But this time, the music will be composed by Mithoon whereas Uttam Singh was roped in for the first movie.
Gadar 2 will be the second movie for Utkarsh as a grown-up actor. His first was Genius (2018), which was also directed by his father.
Gadar (2001) told the story of Tara Singh (Deol) who gets carried away in the storm unleashed by India’s Partition in 1947 after a trainload of corpses arrives in Amritsar from Lahore. Tara is determined to avenge the heinous crime by killing Muslims on the Indian side of the border. However, his hands stop when he sees Sakina (Patel), the woman he had once loved, among them.
Sakina was set to migrate to Pakistan with her family (played by Amrish Puri, Lillete Dubey and others) when the riots began but was stranded alone. She believes they are dead. Tara shelters her and they eventually marry and have a child, only to discover that Sakina's family is alive and now in Lahore. When Sakina goes to meet her family, they confine her and decide to marry her off to a Pakistani guy of their choice. Tara then decides to cross the border with their son to rescue Sakina.
Gadar remains one of the biggest hits of Hindi cinema. BoxOfficeIndia.com calls the film an all-time blockbuster while stating that it earned almost Rs77 crore net against its budget of just Rs19 crore. It was produced by Nitin Keni for Zee Studios.
