The Punjabi-language movie Paani Ch Madhaani, starring Gippy Grewal and Neeru Bajwa, appears to be set in the 1980s.

The movie sees Grewal playing the character of Gulli, who along with his friends, wants to set up a music group in Punjab. Even though he faces resistance from his parents, he pursues his passion. When the bandmates are unsuccessful in impressing their audience, they decide that they need a female singer, and Bajwa joins their group.

The trailer begins with the news of the band winning a lottery of Rs21 lakh but there is a twist as Grewal does not know where the winning ticket is! To add to that, the band gets an opportunity to go to England and they find themselves trying to understand the strange ways of the West. It will be interesting to see how the various threads tie up together in the narrative.

Sporting a retro hairstyle, Grewal seems to be playing a serious character despite the light-hearted moments in the trailer and it seems that the theme of the movie is about the band overcoming different obstacles that come their way. However, Karamjit Anmol and Gurpreet Ghuggi, bring laughter with their silliness and humour.

The production quality of the trailer is impressive as the sepia tone and art direction convey the period that the movie is set in. The costume and make-up departments have worked to lend authenticity to the look and overall tonality of the movie.

Paani Ch Madhaani will be released in theatres on 4 November.
