Veteran Tamil actor Srikanth dies at 82; Rajinikanth mourns his demise

Veteran Tamil actor Srikanth, who made his debut alongside the late J Jayalalithaa in the Tamil classic Vennira Adai (1965), died yesterday. He was 82.

The news of Srikanth’s death was shared on Twitter by the Tamil film artistes' association, the Nadigar Sangam. “RIP Srikanth (sic)," the tweet read.

Actor Rajinikanth mourned Srikanth’s demise. He tweeted in Tamil, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of my dear friend Srikanth. May his soul rest in peace.”

In his four-decade career, Srikanth played both hero as well as villain roles, apart from many character roles. He starred as the hero in nearly 50 films. Towards the end of his career, he was a much sought-after character artiste.

Some of Srikanth's best work came in films like Bama Vijayam (1967, Telugu), Ethir Neechal (1968), Poova Thalaiya (1969), Kasethan Kadavulada (1972), Thanga Padakkam (1974) and Bairavi (1978).
