Yes I Am Student trailer: Issue-based drama that looks at the plight of Indian students abroad

Starring singer-turned-actor Sidhu Moosewala, the film is slated for release on 22 October.

Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala made his acting debut with Moosa Jatt (2021), which was released last week. However, the film that was intended to be his debut was Yes I Am Student. Due to a delay in its release, Moosa Jatt ended up becoming the singer’s first release.

Yes I Am Student also stars Mandy Takhar, Malkiat Rauni, Seema Kaushal and Jaggi Singh. The film's trailer was released on the weekend and has already got more than seven million views on YouTube.

Directed by Tarnvir Singh Jagpal, Yes I Am Student tracks the hardships and travails of youngsters from India who go abroad to study. As the trailer begins, a legend reads, 'This film is dedicated to every student living abroad who is working day and night to fulfil the dreams of himself and his parents.'

Moosewala plays a young man who pleads with his parents to send him abroad for studies. Once there, he starts working to help out his parents. But things aren’t as straightforward as they seem at first.

Written by Gill Raunta, the film addresses the vulnerability of students. Being in a foreign land, they are subject to exploitation and discrimination at the hands of their own people. Besides looking at the plight of Moosewala’s character and his situation, the trailer also features a romantic track with Takhar.

The music is by The Kidd and Intense while the lyrics are by Sidhu Moosewala, Gill Raunta, Happe Malhi and Gurtaj.

The film is based on a different social issue and it remains to be seen how the makers tell the story. Yes I Am Student is set for release on 22 October. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
