Sanak song ‘O Yaara Dil Lagana’: Vidyut Jammwal, Rukmini Maitra star in remix of Agni Sakshi tune

Just when you thought the practice of remixing iconic numbers for new Hindi films was on the wane, the song ‘O Yaara Dil Lagana’ from Kanishk Varma’s Sanak has arrived. Going by the initial bars, the song seems like a brand-new composition but the opening verse ‘Iqraar Karna Mushkil Hai’ makes it clear that it’s the remake of the famous song from Agni Sakshi (1996).

The visuals of the original song featured Manisha Koirala giving a stage performance. The Sanak version is set in a completely different environment — the film’s lead pair, Vidyut Jammwal and Rukmini Maitra, shake a leg near a pool. 

There are very few remixes that stand on their own merit. ‘O Yaara Dil Lagana’ falls into the ‘just-another-remix’ category. 

Composer Chirantan Bhatt has made some peppy alterations to the original music of Nadeem-Shravan. Except for the opening lines, the song has fresh lyrics penned by Manoj Yadav. Both departments haven’t done a bad job but at the same time, the outcome isn’t exciting enough. Singer Stebin Ben is decent though. 

Jammwal and Maitra display impressive chemistry. The actor, for some reason, was given safe dance steps. 

Sanak is a hostage drama that takes place in a hospital. The film will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on 15 October.
