A month ago, filmmaker R Balki announced his upcoming project that features an unusual ensemble cast comprising Sunny Deol, Dulquer Salmaan, Shreya Dhanwanthary and Pooja Bhatt. He had said that the film is a psychological thriller.

It has now been revealed that the film is titled Chup: Revenge of the Artist and, going by its motion poster, it is an ode to the late Hindi film legend Guru Dutt. The filmmaker made the announcement yesterday on the filmmaker’s 57th death anniversary.

The motion poster initially features Guru Dutt while his iconic song ‘Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaye Toh Kya Hai’ from Pyaasa (1957) plays in the background. Gradually, the filmmaker’s face is replaced by that of Deol. Going by the latter’s get-up, it seems he is playing Guru Dutt.

A statement from the makers said, "Chup is R Balki’s debut in the genre of blood and kills. A thriller of global significance, the movie is being conceptually touted as the first-of-its-kind in the world."

Speaking about the film, Balki revealed that the shoot of the film is nearly complete. "Chup is an ode to the sensitive artist, and Guru Dutt is right on top of that list. I have had the story for a long time and I am glad we finally wrote it and are almost done filming it," he said.
