Parambrata Chatterjee and Ishaa Saha will share the screen for the first time in Aritra Sen’s upcoming film Ghorer Pherar Gaan (2022).
A story of how music brings two passionate souls closer, Ghore Pherar Gan will also feature Gourab Chatterjee and Anusua Majumdar in crucial roles.
According to a report in The Telegraph newspaper, Sen, who has lived a significant part of his life in the United Kingdom, was inspired to tell the story of how Bengali families cope in London.
In the film, Tora (Saha) gets married into an affluent family based in London. Her husband Ribhu (Gourab) is a doctor while her mother-in-law Shanta (Majumdar) is a councillor.
Not quite used to their lifestyle, Tora seeks solace outside and meets Imran (Parambrata), a struggling but talented musician who helps her emerge from her surroundings. Tora, who had given up music after marriage, finds new inspiration to live life on her terms.
According to Sen, “Ghore Pherar Gaan is a relationship story. It is a love story woven through music. It is a film in which the characters challenge the status quo instead of accepting it.”
The filmmaker said he wanted to explore the mindscape of someone caught in an unknown city, “how she grows through the film and accepts the city as her home. Music serves as the means for this and it resonates through her being”.
National award-winning music director Prabuddha Banerjee will be creating the score for the film. He is expected to bring in a blend of folk songs and songs of Rabindranath Tagore.
“Parambrata plays the role of Imran, a struggling but supremely talented musician," remarked Sen. "Who better to cast in the role but him, as he himself is such a talented musician.”
Parambrata, who has previously collaborated with Sen on Tiki Taka (2020), Sharate Aaj (2019), Shonar Pahar (2018) and other projects, is also the creative producer of the film.
For Tora, the director wanted someone who could express the apprehensions of a woman visiting an unknown city in a foreign land. “I needed an actor who can portray the vulnerability as well as supreme self-confidence once her metamorphosis is complete,” said Sen, who has also made web-series like BreakUp Story (2020), Damayanti (2020) and Kaali (Season 2, 2020). Besides being an expressive actress, Sen said, Saha's being a singer made the casting decision easy for him.
Sen hopes to begin shooting in mid-November. The film will be shot mostly in London and in Kolkata.
