The Akshay Kumar-starrer earned Rs14 crore on the day, taking its total collection at the domestic box office to Rs91 crore nett.

The first big-ticket Hindi film to hit theatres after the COVID-19 pandemic struck India early last year, Sooryavanshi (2021), directed by Rohit Shetty, is on its way to entering the Rs100 crore collection club.

The Akshay Kumar-starrer did well on its first Monday, earning Rs14 crore nett to take its total collection in four days in cinemas to Rs91 crore, according to the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

The action film, which was released on 5 November, Diwali, after a delay of almost 18 months owing to the pandemic, had an excellent opening with Rs26 crore on the first day. Its performance over the weekend was also good as it earned Rs24 crore on Saturday and Rs27 crore on Sunday despite the 50% occupancy rule still in force in some states.

Sooryavanshi, which also features cameos by Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, has done very well in Gujarat and Maharashtra, possibly because of the Diwali holidays. It is expected to hold well over the week and could reach a lifetime collection of Rs175 crore if the interest continues.
