A small town set in the hills, away from the hustle-bustle of city life, deals with an evil menace that is killing people. Starring Raveena Tandon, Aranyak, which marks her digital debut, refers to the forest or a dweller of a forest.
Tandon plays a Pahadi cop, Kasturi Dogra, who is tasked with finding out the mystery of the forest along with her colleagues. A character played by Ashutosh Rana believes the lunar eclipse invites the menace to the town; this entity has wreaked havoc before and has apparently returned once again.
The teaser offers glimpses of what this masked intruder could be, but there is no doubt that it intends to strike again. Aranyak’s official synopsis reads: After a foreign teenage tourist disappears in a misty town, a harried, local cop Kasturi must join hands with her city-bred replacement Angad, on a big-ticket case that digs up skeletons and revives a forgotten myth of a bloodthirsty, serial killing entity in the forest.
Parambrata Chatterjee plays Angad while Meghna Malik, Zakir Hussain and Indraneil Sengupta are also part of the cast. The series mixes folklore and death with chilling effect, but like other recent web-series such as Candy, which also dealt with a missing person.
Produced by Roy Kapur Films and Ramesh Sippy Entertainment, the showrunner of web-series — which has been directed by Vinay Waikul — is Rohan Sippy. Aranyak is due to be released on Netflix on 10 December.
