Dil Bekaraar teaser: Disney+ Hotstar show takes you back to the 1980s

Filmmakers Habib Faisal and Tarun Mansukhani have come together to direct this web-series.

Sahher Bambba and Akshay Oberoi in Dil Bekaraar

Habib Faisal is known for helming and writing quite a few films for Yash Raj Films, including the successful Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011) and Ishaqzaade (2012). Tarun Mansukhani, on the other hand, has been closely associated with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. His most successful outing with the banner has been Dostana (2008).

Now, Faisal and Mansukhani have joined hands for Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming web-series Dil Bekaraar, which is based on Anuja Chauhan's 2013 novel Those Pricey Thakur Girls.

The show is set in the 1980s in Delhi and it revolves around the Thakur family. A young girl (Sahher Bambba) from the family is a newsreader on the government-run channel Deshdarpan, inspired by Doordarshan.

The newsreader is in love with a young man (Akshay Oberoi). Their love story also goes through various ups and downs.

Even from the teaser, it is evident that the makers have succeeded in recreating simpler times with the production design, Doordarshan-like channel and the inclusion of the now-defunct soft drink Gold Spot transporting the viewer to the 1980s.

But it’s not possible to make out the story, which seems intentional on the part of the makers.

Bambba, who was last seen in the show The Empire, suits the role of a newsreader of the bygone era. The show also stars veteran artistes Padmini Kolhapure, Raj Babbar and Poonam Dhillon.

Check out the teaser and let us know if you would are keen on watching the show.
