Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui trailer: Ayushmann Khurrana, Vaani Kapoor are intertwined in a trans love story

The romance, written by Supratik Sen and Tushar Paranjape, looks at the affair between a fitness instructor and a Zumba teacher through a comedic lens, which is worrying.

A buff Ayushmann Khurrana plays a dedicated fitness instructor, Manvinder, in the first trailer for or Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021), which has been directed by Abhishek Kapoor. Working in Chandigarh gym, the bachelor has one goal in mind, until Maanvi Brar (Vaani Kapoor) enters his life.

Manvinder shares his gym space with Maanvi, a Zumba teacher, and the two soon become close and enter a relationship. It is then the story takes a turn when Maanvi reveals to Manvinder that she is a trans woman. The delicate subject is looked at through a stereotypical comedic lens which is worrying.

Manvinder is hounded by his Punjabi relatives to get married, and he considers settling down with Maanvi once they get together, but when she talks to him about her past, he backs away, accusing her of cheating him.

Tagged as a 'mind-bending love story’, the romance seems to look at the love story with a simplistic view, with an actress playing a trans woman. Written by Supratik Sen and Tushar Paranjape, it remains to be seen how the film will handle the couple’s dynamics once they deal with their personal attraction to one another, Manvinder’s desire to fit into society and its norms and his relationship with Maanvi.

The film also features Kanwaljit Singh, Gourav Sharma, Goutam Sharma, Yograj Singh, Aanjjan Srivastav and Abhishek Bajaj.

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui is due to be released in theatres on 10 December.
