On the fifth anniversary yesterday of the Indian government's sudden and controversial move in 2016 to demonetize high-value currency notes, Disney+ Hotstar released the quirky trailer for its upcoming film Cash (2021) based on the same topic.

The trailer introduces us to street-smart entrepreneur Armaan Gulati (Amol Parashar) who has big dreams. After multiple failed attempts at starting his business, Armaan finally finds a golden opportunity to realize his dreams when the government cancels currency notes of Rs500 and Rs1,000.

Armaan decides to set up a business with friend Vivek Sodani (Kavin Dave) and launder illegal cash and turn it into 'white' money for a commission. In this business, they get the help of a mysterious woman played by Smriti Kalra.

The duo gets its first assignment from a gangster (Swanand Kirkire) to launder Rs5 crore of dirty money in less than 52 days before banks stop accepting the old notes. The team uses unique methods like booking and cancelling railway tickets and donating money to temples to turn the illegal cash legal. But when gangster Gautam Acharya (Gulshan Grover) demands his money back, things start to go awry.

The tone of the trailer is quirky, indicating that though the film deals with a serious topic, director Rishab Seth has chosen to approach this dramatic event in a funny manner.

Parashar, who has proved his comic timing in projects like Tripplings, seems to be in top form again. Kirkire, an acclaimed lyricist, is the surprise package here. Kavin Dave and Smriti Kalra look promising.

The film, produced by Vishesh Bhatt Production, will be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar from 19 November. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch it.
