The UK-based independent film studio Black Hangar Studios has come on board as a presenter for Sonalee Kulkarni's Mogulmardani Chhatrapati Tararani.
Produced by Planet Marathi and Golden Ratio Films, this historical epic is the first Marathi project to be shot in the London studio.
Black Hangar Studios is associated with several Hollywood productions such as Dark Tide (2012), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and Dumbo (2019) as well as the show 24: Live Another Day, and Shah Rukh Khan's Ra.One (2011).
Speaking about the film, Planet Marathi's CMD Akshay Bardapurkar said, "Planet Marathi has always strived to improve the quality of Marathi films. People do not know much about Chhatrapati Tararani."
Mogulmardani Chhatrapati Tararani is based on one of the greatest epics of valour of the Maratha warrior queen Chhatrapati Tararani who fought with the Mughals, Dutch, British, Portuguese and Siddis as well as the forces of the Nizam Shahi, Adil Shahi and Qutub Shahi dynasties at the same time. Rani Tarabai, Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's younger daughter-in-law, was instrumental in saving the Maratha empire from collapse after the death of her husband Chhatrapati Rajaram in 1700.
Mogulmardani Chhatrapati Tararani will be directed by popular Marathi director Rahul Jadhav who had helmed the films Vijay Aso (2013) and Murder Mestri (2016). The film, which is based on a novel by Dr Jaysingrao Pawar, will be adapted for the screens by Dr Sudhir Nikam.
This one-of-a-kind historical epic will be produced in both Marathi and English. The makers are planning a Diwali 2022 release in India and overseas.
