Indian indie films Ee Ma Yau (2018), Mukti Bhawan (2017), Chuskit (2018) and When Hari Got Married (2013), along with the documentaries Yeh Freedom Life (2018) and About Love (2021), will be screened at the 26th edition of the European Union Film Festival (EUFF) as part of a contemporary Indian section.

The online edition will also pay homage to filmmaker Satyajit Ray in his birth centenary year with a screening of Pather Panchali (1955). The virtual festival began digitally from 1 November; audiences can register free through the Festival Scope and the EUFF website.

Organized by the Delegation of the European Union to India, member states and associate countries in collaboration with Indian and European partners, the festival has a line-up that includes 60 films in 37 languages.

The contemporary Indian section, curated by the Dharamshala International Film Festival, has chosen critically acclaimed films that have been screened at festivals around the world. Besides Ray’s classic, the festival will screen Uday Shankar’s dance masterpiece Kalpana (1948).

Other sections at the virtual festival include Contemporary European Cinema, European Masters of Cinema, Co-productions, a short film selection, films on climate change, and film education. EUFF will pay tribute to its cinematic legacy by presenting, in collaboration with Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival, films by Claude Chabrol, Jiří Menzel and Roberto Rossellini, amongst others, that have been digitally restored and remastered.

Speaking about the festival, Ugo Astuto, ambassador of the European Union to India, said, “The 26th edition of the European Film Festival will provide viewers a window to Europe, taking them on a journey across the continent through the eyes of our storytellers. The positive feedback after our last edition has encouraged us to include again a section on classic masterpieces from Europe and India. We hope you will enjoy the month-long festival.”

The online festival will end on 30 November. To view the films, register here or visit the festival site for more information.
