Koozhangal, Pedro, Shankar’s Fairies, Nayattu and The Great Indian Kitchen selected for IFFK


The 26th edition will feature nine films in the Indian Cinema Now section, and 14 films in the Malayalam Cinema Today category.

The organizers of the upcoming International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) announced their selection of Indian films yesterday for the sections Indian Cinema Now and Malayalam Cinema Today. These include festival films Koozhangal, Pedro, Shankar’s Fairies and Deep6 as well as the acclaimed Malayalam features Nayattu and The Great Indian Kitchen.

Organized by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs, the 26th edition will be held from 10 to 17 December in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital. The institution has chosen nine films for the Indian Cinema Now section, and 14 films for the Malayalam Cinema Today.

Koozhangal (Pebbles), which will represent India in the Best International Feature Film category, and Prabhash Chandra’s Hindi-Kashmiri film Be Ches Ne Veth (I'm Not The River Jhelum) will also compete in the International competition section. As will the Malayalam films Forbidden by Tara Ramanujan and The Arbit Documentation Of An Amphibian Hunt by Krishan RK.

According to an online report by The Hindu, the films for Indian Cinema Now were chosen by filmmakers Madhupal, PN Ramachandra and Santhosh Mundoor, and film critics Nandini Ramnath and CS Venketeswaran. Madhupal was the chairperson who led the committee. The Malayalam films were selected by chairperson and director Harikumar, writer E Santosh Kumar, Miriam Joseph, filmmakers Don Palathara and Sajin Babu.
