Special tribute to music maestro AR Rahman at Cairo film festival

A special tribute was conferred upon renowned composer AR Rahman at the 43rd Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) currently underway in the Egyptian capital.
The maestro shared on Instagram the certificate awarded to him. It says the honour is in recognition of Rahman's 'creative contributions that span both cinema and music'.
Rahman also shared an image of himself attending the festival.
The composer has won several awards over the past three decades, including two Academy awards, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA, and is recognized as one of the more talented composers in the world today.
Rahman recently made his foray into film production with the musical romance drama 99 Songs (2021). The film, co-written by the composer and starring Ehan Bhatt and Edilsy Vargas, was premiered at the 24th Busan International Film Festival in 2019 and released in India in April this year.
The first song from the forthcoming film Atrangi Re, 'Chaka Chak', composed by Rahman, was released yesterday. The much-awaited film starring Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and South star Dhanush is directed by Aanand L Rai.
One of the oldest cultural events in North Africa, the CIFF is being held this year from 26 November to 5 December. The line-up of films includes nine world premieres and two international premieres in the features and 17 world premieres and five international premieres in the shorts category.
