The Pritam tune 'Tumse Bhi Zyada', which has been composed for Milan Luthria's Tadap, harks back to the late 1990s and early 2000s with its traditional desi beats and Arijit Singh's melodramatic vocals. The film will see Ahan Shetty make his debut as a wrath-filled lover on the warpath.
It is not the composition alone that reminds one of the past. The mist swirling around Tara Sutaria's heroine character and the montages of the couple romancing add to the touch of nostalgia. There is even the typical visit to a monument where the lovers' names are scribbled on a wall.
Ahan has some of the mannerisms of Suneil Shetty, especially during moments of brooding. The film also seems to suffer from the 'Kabir Singh' syndrome, with a tragedy forcing a return to alcohol. Tara Sutaria has little to do but look charming and pleasant. Hopefully, the film offers both artistes more opportunities for exploration.
Pritam's composition is excellent but lacks some of the novelty that his other works have. Perhaps, it is a residual effect of the nostalgic feel. The use of a traditional orchestra to aid a very familiar 'Hindi film' song works. The lyrics by Irshad Kamil and Ashish Pandit are simple, to the point and capture the pathos of the suffering hero. Arijit Singh continues to deliver as the \voice of heartbroken lovers on screen. Yet, one suspects, this would have been one of the singer's easier assignments.
Tadap has been produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film will be released in theatres on 3 December 2021.
