Abhijit Das, who is making his directorial debut, will start shooting for the film Bijoyar Pore, starring Mamata Shankar, Swastika Mukherjee, Dipankar De and Mir Afsar Ali, in December.

The film will see Mamata Shankar and De as the lead pair after 12 years. The last film in which they featured as a pair was Abohomaan (2009).

Mukherjee and Afsar Ali, on the other hand, were last seen together in Michael (2018).

Also featuring Bidipta Chakraborty, Mishka Halim, Rwitobroto Mukherjee, Padmanabha Dasgupta and Kheya Chattopadhyay, Bijoyar Pore will narrate the story of elderly couple Alokananda (Mamata) and Ananda (De) who lead a simple life in the suburbs, away from their children. As Durga Puja approaches, Alokananda and Ananda arrange for a family reunion on Bijoya, the concluding day of the four-day celebration. Along with the other siblings, eldest daughter Mrinmayee (Swastika) arrives with Mizanur (Afsar Ali) and the story goes on to explore the nuances of several fractured relationships, waning sentiments and fond memories.

Speaking of the story, Abhijit Das said, “Set in the time of Durga Puja, the story is about the aged family members who are losing companions. In my film, the rest of the members of Alokananda and Ananda’s family either stay away for work or have lost connection among themselves. The film narrates how the elderly couple live with their loneliness and crises while clinging to memories of their daughter and sons.”

The film also shows how Alokananda and Ananda regret not having shaped their children’s outlook on life better. “They didn’t have the option to be sure of their choices and hence they make up their minds to confess to their mistakes at the upcoming family gathering,” Das, a former radio jockey, explained.

Excited to return to a Bengali film after working in Arjunn Dutta’s Srimati (2022) in March 2021, Swastika Mukherjee said, “I keep longing to work with the artistes who are associated with this film. This is going to be a reunion with Dipankar-jyethu, Momo-pisi and Mir.

"I am also equally excited to work with some of the interesting ensemble cast for the first time. Abhijit and I were discussing the project for the last one year. Finally, the shooting is going to begin.”

Afsar Ali said, “The best part of Bijoyar Pore is I get to work with Swastika after a long time. It’s a family film with lots of characters involved. Dipankar De, Mamata Shankar, Swastika are great people to work with. Abhijit is a new director, but he has a vision that is crystal clear. He knows exactly what he wants from his actors. Looking for a new experiment in life, once again.”
