Jimmy Sheirgill is back as district court judge Bishan Khosla in the second season of Your Honor on SonyLIV.

Speaking about the show which went live on the platform on 19 November, Sheirgill said, "In the first season, we saw that Bishan Khosla's wife has passed away and he is trying to reconnect with his son, which is not easy. And all of a sudden he gets to know his son is involved in the hit-and-run case of a feared gangster.

"The first season was about how he is trying to save his son from the gangsters and the police and how he gets sucked further into the world of crime in his attempts to do so. But in the second season, he has much to deal with while his young son sits in jail."

The second season begins just 10 or 15 days after the finale of the first season. This time, things go from bad to worse for Khosla.

"In the first season, Khosla only had to deal with one problem, but in this new season you will see him dealing with multiple problems at the same time," Sheirgill said. "When he realizes that things have gone out of control, he finally decides to fight circumstances in his own way. Whether he overcomes these growing problems and saves his son's life, that is what the second season is all about."

Sheirgill got a fair amount of praise for his performance as a father who is ready to go to any length to save his son. He revealed that being father to a boy in real life helped him relate to Bishan Khosla's moral dilemma.

"The first responsibility of any father is to make sure his child doesn't face any problem," he said. "My character Bishan Khosla is just like any other father who will go to any extent to save his son's life. And being a father, I could relate to judge Khosla's moral dilemma. It was one of the major reasons I agreed to be part of this show."

The actor said he was aware that some have been questioning the premise of a judge getting involved in illegal activities, but "all those people who are criticizing this character's actions will do the same thing when their own son's life is at stake".

Your Honor is based on the Israeli show Kvodo. Recently that show was remade in English with Bryan Cranston in the lead. Asked whether he feels the additional pressure of being compared to Cranston, Sheirgill replied, "Not at all. In fact, director E Niwas and I had a lot of discussions about how to make this character different from the original and I believe we have succeeded.

"Talking about comparisons with Bryan Cranston, we all know what a great actor he is," he continued. "Like everybody else, I'm also a huge fan and he has delivered an excellent performance. But I don't believe in comparisons. Every actor has given his best and brought something unique to the character. Instead of comparing, we should be happy that we are getting to see three different versions of the same character."
