At a masterclass during the ongoing 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Prasoon Joshi, the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), shed light on his term as the head of the body.

The lyricist and poet said, "Running a multinational company for many years helps organizational discipline. It is advantageous and helps you understand and deal with issues. More than that, the fundamentals, creative people do not create to harm anyone. All my colleagues know that there is no acquisition here."

Describing India as the most complex country in the world, Joshi said that the challenge lies in balancing the many different viewpoints. "My attempt has been to bring in discussions instead of debates... The creative process is collective."

Joshi, whose tenure also saw the violent events unfold in relation to the release of Padmaavat (2018), as well as several attacks on filmmakers, was of the opinion that the larger the commercial investment, the greater the say [the investor has]. "It is the decision of society as a collective to what to listen, and not to listen to. We are talking about an industry, commerce, share of wallet. When you talk of share of wallet, you cannot ignore share of voice. It comes hand in hand. If you understand the fundamentals right, you can find solutions," he said.
