Sushmita Sen is back as the tough-as-nails housewife Aarya Sareen whose world is rocked after she discovers her family’s secret ties to drug lords after the murder of her husband Tej (Chandrachur Singh). At the end of the terrific first season, she and her three children seemingly escape from her foes after apparently vanquishing them.

But it is impossible for her to steer clear of the criminal life and her many enemies, including the Russian mob and her own relatives. As she returns to face them all, she gets sucked back into the same quagmires depicted in the first season.

Emboldened by a recorded message from Tej, she lets people know that her family is her weakness and her strength. Like the last time, she will try to emerge at the top of the heap. The second season sees a whole host of returning characters with Jayant Kripalani, Sikandar Kher, Ankur Bhatia, Vikas Kumar, Sugandha Garg, Dilnaz Irani, Maya Sarao and Sohaila Kapur reprising their roles.

The new season has a few new faces like Akash Khurana and Geetanjali Kulkarni. Based on the Dutch series Penoza, the first season was nominated for the International Emmy Award for Best Drama this year.

Sen, who looks a bit different in several scenes, is the fierce heart of the show, wanting to protect her children at any cost. Aarya got lucky the first time around, will she be as fortunate the second time?

Written by Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh and Anu Singh Choudhary, the second season has been directed by Ram Madhvani, Vinod Rawat and Kapil Sharma. Aarya returns to Disney+ Hotstar on 10 December.
