The first two seasons of Amazon Prime Video’s Inside Edge featured two editions of India’s T20 franchise league, on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both seasons focused more on the dark goings-on behind the scenes in such cricket tournaments.
That is why those awaiting the third edition of Inside Edge were surprised to find the makers exploring a Test series between India and Pakistan, no less, this time.
Show creator Karan Anshuman said at the launch of the trailer for the latest season, “We were always building up towards this. According to me, T20 is a bit of a corruption of the game. I am a purist. One was always trying to get to this point.”
He continued, “This is what cricket really is about, especially the skills required to be a Test player. I think T20 has changed in the last few years. It has become a very different sport from when it started out. Since we also started out five years ago, it has gone through a lot.”
The third season of Inside Edge will see India’s 'famous player' Vayu Raghvan (Tanuj Virwani) representing the country in the longest format of the game. While battling the opposition, he is also locked in a tussle with the team captain (Akshay Oberoi) for the leadership mantle. The show also sees a battle between the cricket board chief and Vikrant, the biggest name in sports management.
Karan believes that when it comes to Test cricket, a series between the two neighbouring countries ranks the highest. “I can’t think of a more fun event than an India-Pakistan Test series because that is the true test of who we are in sports," he said. "India versus Pakistan Test cricket is like the greatest show.”
Produced by Excel Entertainment, Inside Edge (Season 3) will be premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 3 December.
