Atrangi Re trailer: Sara Ali Khan, Dhanush and Akshay Kumar form bizarre love triangle

There are few actors who possess the rare combination of rustic looks and charm like Shah Rukh Khan. Dhanush definitely is among the few. Aanand L Rai's drama Atrangi Re marks the actor's long-awaited return to Hindi cinema after Shamitabh (2015).

The trailer begins with Dhanush's character being kidnapped to be married to a feisty young woman (Sara Ali Khan). With the woman harbouring feelings for a charming circus rogue Sajjad (Akshay Kumar), things get complicated. The kindhearted Tamilian now faces the choice of helping her find her love and returning to his life. Except, emotions come in the way.

The trailer is packed with colour, punchlines and fabulous music by AR Rahman. Sara tries hard to be the spunky, feisty female lead. She has potential but lacks the natural energy of a Kareena Kapoor Khan or Kajol at their peak. Dhanush looks composed and it is a nice change to see a Tamil actor speaking Tamil dialogues. It feels like the natural balance has been restored. Throw in a dash of Akshay Kumar making a typical hero entry, and a hint of magical realism, and you have an entertainer on your hands.

Produced by Colour Yellow Production, T-Series and Cape Of Good Films, Atrangi Re will be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar from 24 December onwards.
