Filmmaker Nikhil Mahajan’s Marathi movie Godavari was recently screened at the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. During an interaction after the movie, the filmmaker said that the film was made while keeping the late filmmaker Nishikant Kamat in mind. He died at the age of 50 in August 2020.
“Our film is a tribute to one of the most talented filmmakers of our time, Nishikant Kamat. He was very close to all of us. Jitendra Joshi [who plays the lead in the film] and I decided on that day that we will make a film on this. This is my third feature film after Pune 52 (2013) and Baji (2015),” said Mahajan.
The story of Godavari revolves around a man called Nishikant [Joshi] who is tired of his mundane life of collecting rent for his family of landowners.
Sharing the importance of the river in the film, Mahajan said, “Rivers are lifelines. They create civilization and the Godavari is one such river. It is a very sacred and important river and people believe there is something magical about this river. I got to see the Godavari for the first time for this movie. It was a great experience to see a completely new city and to portray it in a movie.”
Godavari is all set to be released in theatres on 3 December.
