There exists some kind of madness in every character, says Hrithik Roshan

At the 52nd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), actor Hrithik Roshan was part of a virtual in-conversation session. The session featured writer-director Siddharth Anand and was moderated by trade analyst Komal Nahta.

Speaking at the session, Hrithik said, “There exists some kind of madness in every character. The real magic happens when one actor understands this madness."

Elaborating on this, he said that an actor first needs to resonate with the character within himself and establish a strong connection. "I feel the emotions I play. Usually, the emotions are real as I take them from my own life and experiences," he added.

Addressing aspiring actors in the industry, he said, "They should treat themselves like Olympic athletes. They need to put their hard work in training and practise every day and surround themselves with cine lovers.”

Roshan also spoke about the importance of OTT platforms, saying, "All kinds of people in our social environment need to be properly represented in cinema. With the emergence of OTT platforms, there is a wide scope for all actors and filmmakers. How wonderful it is when each actor has an opportunity to be a superstar!"

Speaking about his roles and responding to a question, he said, “Sometimes after completion of a film, it’s difficult to unlearn and forget a few characters which have a deep-rooted impression upon you. It’s disheartening to unlearn the characters of Koi... Mil Gaya and Kaabil."

Siddharth Anand spoke about the filmmaking process, saying that directing a film is a long and multi-faceted process. “The director needs to crack the story first. Then he has to look after scripting, dialogue, selection of actors, screenplay and a whole lot of things," he added.
