Director Varun V Sharma’s debut film Bunty Aur Babli 2 has had a disappointing first weekend at the box office. The film, starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari, has collected only Rs8.25 crore nett in the first three days, according to trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.
After opening at just Rs2.50 crore on Friday, the film saw no movement the next day and made exactly the same amount. It saw some increase in collections on Sunday with Rs3.25 crore nett, but that wasn't enough to salvage its first weekend.
In fact, the sequel has earned less than the original Bunty Aur Babli (2005) had in its first weekend (Rs8.66 crore). That film was released 16 years ago with just a quarter of the number of screens allotted to Bunty Aur Babli 2.
Bunty Aur Babli 2 was made at a moderate cost of Rs30 crore. But given how its first-weekend performance has been, reaching even that figure may prove to be tough. With two big-ticket films, Satyameva Jayate 2 starring John Abraham and Salman Khan's Antim: The Final Truth, set to be released on Friday, the number of screens for Bunty Aur Babli 2 is certain to be drastically reduced.
Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi (2021) recorded an impressive third Sunday. The Akshay Kumar-starrer collected Rs5 crore nett, taking its grand total so far to Rs178 crore.
