After the success of Kabir Singh (2019), Shahid Kapoor returns to the big screen as a father and cricketer in another remake, Jersey (2021), which is due to be released on new year's eve.

In the first-look poster for the film, Kapoor steps out on the field for his character’s big comeback to the sport. The actor shared the poster for the film, which has been in the works for the past two years.

"We have waited to share this emotion with you for two years," he wrote. "This story is special. This team is special. This character is special. And the fact that we get to share it on the big screen with you all is special."

A remake of the Nani-starrer Jersey (2019), the feature has National award-winning Telugu filmmaker Gowtam Tinnanuri returning to direct the Hindi remake. The film also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur. The father and son reunite on the screen after Mausam (2011) and Shaandaar (2015).

The Telugu hit was an underdog story in which a father returns to play cricket again in his thirties for a spot on the national team, to fulfil his son’s wish for the India jersey.

The Hindi remake is going to be presented by Allu Aravind and is produced by Aman Gill, Dil Raju and S Naga Vamsi. The film’s trailer will be launched tomorrow.

Gill said, “The last two years have been a long journey for all of us and the film, and we did not want to compromise anything for the audience along the way. We are eagerly looking forward to the audience responses on our posters and trailer in the coming days.”

Jersey also features music from composers Sachet and Parampara.
