Box office: Bunty Aur Babli 2 gets a low opening, Sooryavanshi holds steady

The Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji-starrer did not benefit from the Guru Nanak Jayanti holiday in northern India.

Yash Raj Films’ Bunty Aur Babli 2, which arrived in theatres yesterday, managed to make only Rs2.50 to 2.75 crore nett, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari, the film's first-day collection is about the same as its predecessor, Bunty Aur Babli (2005). However, that movie was released 16 years ago and that too on 475 screens, as opposed to the sequel's 1,800.

More importantly, Bunty Aur Babli 2 failed to take advantage of the Guru Nanak Jayanti holiday in the northern part of India yesterday.

As per trade sources, the film was made at a cost of around Rs30 crore. Plus, two films, Satyameva Jayate 2 and Antim: The Final Truth, are being released next Friday.

Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi registered a collection higher than Bunty Aur Babli 2 on its third Friday as it held steady at Rs3.25 crore. The Akshay Kumar-starrer has so far earned an impressive Rs170 crore.
