Karan Deol made his acting debut in father Sunny Deol’s directorial venture Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas (2019), a romantic movie. Unfortunately, the younger Deol couldn't pull it off as he mostly struggled to emote.
His next film, Velle (2021), is a comedy crime drama, a genre very different from his first film. Only time will tell whether he does a better job this time. But he appears better than in his debut film, at least in the trailer.
Velle, which is North Indian slang for idle, good-for-nothing youngsters, is about Rahul (Karan) and his friends (played by Savant Singh Premi and Visshesh Tiwari). They are always at the receiving end of their elders for whiling away their time and not being good at studies. Their life changes after Riya (Anya Singh) joins their group.
Riya’s father (Zakir Hussain) insults the three friends and they desire to get even with him. Riya suggests that they 'abduct' her and seek a hefty ransom. However, Riya then gets abducted by a real gang.
The story instantly reminds you of E Nivas’s Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (2001). That does not mean, however, that the 2001 film had an original storyline.
The trailer suggests Velle is a decent entertainer. There are a few laughs here and there. A lot will depend on Karan Deol’s performance. The other three youngsters appear promising.
The trailer shows that Abhay Deol’s character is narrating the story to Mouni Roy. It may well be that uncle Abhay is playing the older version of Karan's character.
Directed by Deven Munjal and presented by Ajay Devgn Ffilms, Velle will be released in theatres on 10 December. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are eager to see this film.
