Satyameva Jayate 2's latest song, 'Jann Gann Mann' makes a desperate but futile appeal to patriotism in order to strike a chord.
The ballad's visuals begin with John Abraham, who seems to be playing three roles in the film, essaying the role of a farmer seeking justice. From his offering prayers to a river to his taking up the flag, the whole effort comes across as inauthentic. Throw in cliched dialogue and the sentiments surrounding passing on a message to his twin sons, who grow up to be hulking vigilantes, and the song evokes enough nostalgia to take you back to the 1980s.
The composition, sadly, is similarly sub-par. The music is effective and suits the narrative, but lacks emotional depth. While 'Teri Mitti' lyricist Manoj Muntashir and vocalist B Praak have tried to recreate the magic of the rousing anthem, 'Jann Gann Mann' is lacking in pathos.
B Praak has range, but without the compositional element or visual acuity, he fails to make an impact. The singer is slowly fitting into a mould, and his songs are starting to sound too similar. Perhaps, a change of pace may help. Muntashir's lyrics are good but do not offer the listener anything new.
Satyameva Jayate 2 has been directed by Milap Milan Zaveri and is set to release on 25 November 2021.
