Box office: Sooryavanshi fares well on second Monday, reaches Rs155.36 crore

Directed by Rohit Shetty, the action film has been running without competition in theatres as no Hindi film was released last Friday.

Director Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, which crossed the Rs150 crore mark after earning Rs13.50 crore nett on its second Sunday, was expected to decline at the box office on its second Monday and that is exactly what has happened. The film made Rs4.25 crore on the day, according to the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

The Akshay Kumar-starrer has, however, broken even with a total domestic collection of Rs155.36 crore nett against its estimated production budget of Rs150 crore.

Sooryavanshi did well in theatres in the second week largely because no other Hindi film was released last Friday and other producers may have missed a trick there. The film now has till Thursday to capitalize on this advantage because Yash Raj Films’ Bunty Aur Babli 2 will arrive in theatres on Friday. While there isn’t a massive buzz for the film starring Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari it is certain to take up a large number of screens.
