Having no competition at all for the second week in a row has worked well for Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi (2021). The action drama, directed by Rohit Shetty, added an excellent Rs30.75 crore nett to its kitty on its second weekend, according to trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.
With this, the film crossed the Rs150 crore mark on its 10th day in theatres. Sooryavanshi added Rs10.25 crore and Rs13.50 crore nett on its second Saturday and Sunday, respectively, to take its grand total at the domestic box office to Rs151.11 crore. The film had made an impressive Rs120 crore nett in its first week.
According to trade sources, the film was made on a budget of about Rs150 crore. Its box-office collection has now surpassed that number and seems headed for the Rs200 crore mark. However, the film's solo reign over the box office will end on Friday with the release of Yash Raj Films' Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021), so it will be interesting to see how much it manages to collect in the next four days.
Sooryavanshi, which also stars Katrina Kaif and has cameos by Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, also became the first Hindi film to cross the Rs150 crore mark after Devgn's Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020).
