Taapsee Pannu and Pratik Gandhi, who are acting opposite each other for the first time, play a police officer and a newlywed scion respectively in the upcoming comedy-drama Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan? (2022)

Written and directed by Arshad Syed, the film is being shot in Jaipur, Rajasthan and the first look of the feature sees the lead pair apparently teaming up to find a missing bride.

Pannu, who is essaying the role of a cop for the first time in her career, said, “Playing a policewoman and doing a comedy film has always been on my checklist and I am happy that it is finally ticked off. I had seen Pratik's work and I think he is a very talented actor and I am absolutely enjoying working with him.”

“Arshad has written an amazing script with great comic quirks and also a lot of heart, which I am looking forward to. I am happy that Junglee Pictures and Roy Kapur Films have collaborated to produce this film. It's going to be a fun ride!” she added.

Pannu recently wrapped up shooting for the Mithali Raj biopic Shabaash Mithu (2022) and is also working on her first home production Blurr co-starring Gulshan Devaiah. She also has Anurag Kashyap's Do Baaraa, the Run Lola Run (1998) remake Looop Lapeta, as well as the Telugu film Mishan Impossible in the works.

Meanwhile, Gandhi is the successor of a 'masala' magnate family in the film. “My character in Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan? is very different from anything I have ever done before, and that is very exciting,” he said. “Taapsee is super talented and I am so thrilled to be working with her. Arshad has a great vision and he has written the story with so much nuance! I am sure the audiences will love it.”

The in-demand actor has a number of upcoming projects next year, including the Hindi films Dedh Bigha Zameen, Atithi Bhooto Bhava, an untitled comedy with Vidya Balan, the Gujarati film Vaahlam Jaao Ne and the Disney+ Hotstar web-series Six Suspects.

Syed said, “Having a cast of brilliant actors like Taapsee Pannu and Pratik Gandhi has enriched my cinematic journey. The characters they're essaying are the comic fodder of our film.”

Producer and managing director Siddharth Roy Kapur spoke about collaborating with Junglee Pictures for this project. “Their excitement around this story was evident right from their unbridled laughter in Arshad’s script narration, and I look forward to a wonderful association ahead of us,” he said.

Kapur's production house has also lined up the web-series Aranyak and Rocket Boys for this year and will produce the war film, Pippa (2022), starring Ishaan Khatter next year. Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, the film is now being shot in West Bengal.

Amrita Pandey, Junglee Pictures’ CEO, which has Badhaai Do and Doctor G in the pipeline for next year, said, “Arshad has written an intriguing and enjoyable story and we are elated to have collaborated with Roy Kapur Films on this one. Both Taapsee Pannu and Pratik Gandhi have made a huge impact with their work and to have them together in the film is really exciting.”
