Ayushmann Khurrana's turn as a brawny Chandigarh man is off to a peppy start. The title track of Abhishek Kapoor's upcoming film Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui is an upgrade of Jassi Sidhu's hit of the same name, with a funky twist thrown in by Sachin-Jigar. The film is set to be released in theatres on 10 December.
The visuals are an upgrade on Sidhu's original album. From two decades ago, the original has its share of clichéd chaos which ruled the Punjabi pop industry back then. The new song video retains the chaos but is sharper with its choreography and movement. Khurrana's newly built physique stays the focus as he and Vaani Kapoor show off their flair on the dance floor.
The song is another story. Jassi Sidhu's original had a simpler, more folksy style that suited his voice. Sachin-Jigar lend it a more updated rhythm with a percussion-heavy touch. Jigar Saraiya's vocals, combined with those of Sidhu, rise to the occasion. The music is foot-tapping and slowly gets you into the groove. IP Singh's lyrics are on point with the new age and capture the feel quite well. The rap section in the middle is another pick-up which lifts the track as the hookline starts fading.
Seeking to be a part of different, even unusual, stories has been Khurrana's USP as an actor and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui is expected to be along similar lines. The film is directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series. Watch the title song below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
