Box office: Annaatthe mints Rs217 crore at ticket windows despite negative reviews

Actor Rajinikanth’s latest Tamil film Annaatthe, which was released worldwide in cinemas for Diwali, has managed to mint over Rs200 crore nett at the box office despite garnering largely negative reviews.
As per trade analyst Manobala Vijayan, Annaatthe — the biggest film to be released after the second wave of coronavirus pandemic — has grossed Rs217.63 crore.
According to Manobala, while the film earned ₹ 202.47 crore in its first week, it had made Rs15.16 crore by day four of the following week.

Annaatthe was criticized for being melodramatic and overly sentimental. However, the film has managed to strike a chord with audiences because it marks the superstar's return to the silver screen after two years.
Directed by Siva, the film also stars Keerthy Suresh as Rajinikanth’s sister and features Kushboo Sundar, Meena and Jagapathi Babu.
