The long-awaited film adaption of Cobalt Blue (2021) is finally being premiered on Netflix. Writer-director Sachin Kundalkar has adapted his own novel of the same name in this arresting film set in Kerala.
The feature film stars Prateik Babbar as the mysterious stranger and paying guest who brings intrigue and allure into the lives of siblings played by Neelay Mehendale and Anjali Sivaraman when both are attracted to him. But as he enters their lives, he exits, too, leaving a fractured relationship between the brother and sister.
The visual look and tone of Cobalt Blue is both dreamy and melancholy, as the siblings nurse their heartbreaks. The film is set in the early 1990s and has a vivid colour palette that emphasizes the colour blue in most frames.
Babbar has an intriguing role and plays the part of the enigmatic cad with restraint. Mehendale looks impressive as the pensive poet constantly lost in thought. Produced by Open Air Films, Cobalt Blue is due to be released on Netflix on 3 December.
