Actor Soham Chakraborty will be seen as a thief named Anish in Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha’s upcoming film Jai Kali Kalkattawali.

Also starring Nusrat Jahan, Susmita Chatterjee and Somraj Maity, the romantic comedy is about the escapades of three fraudsters Anish, Sujoy (Maity) and Mili (Chatterjee). Jahan plays Raka, the love interest of Anish, who is educated but is unable to get a job.

The cash-strapped Sujoy dreams of setting up a business while Mili is a struggling actress. Circumstances push the three friends into a life of crime and they eventually get embroiled in the theft of a precious gold image of the Goddess Kali.

“The three friends get into petty theft and avoid violence. While going on like this, they get hold of a gold image of Ma Kali, but they do not realize its actual worth. Eventually, they get into a chase sequence while carrying the image to smugglers. The entire sequence has been shot with a lot of fun and thrills,” said Chakraborty.

Known for starring in the television series Ei Chheleta Bhelbheleta, Maity will be making his big-screen debut in Jai Kali Kalkattawali. According to him, in the film, the three friends do not steal with the intention to harm people but only for the sake of survival. "The three characters have their back story and to survive in the big city, they are left with no choice but to con people," he said.

The film also marks Chakraborty’s first collaboration with Jahan. In the film, Anish hides his true identity from Raka, a simple, credulous and innocent woman, telling her that he is a police officer. However, confusion arises when Anish gets chased by actual cops and eventually, the revelation of his true identity creates an emotional moment between the two.

“The film has a happy ending and to know how it takes place, the audience needs to watch the film in the theatre,” said Chakraborty.

The actor and Trinamool Congress MP said he had a great time working with the director duo. “I first worked with them in Dekh Kemon Lage (2017). It has always been a lot of fun to work with them. Both of them are very sweet and calm people and they always try to make the shooting experience enjoyable and take good care of all the artistes. I love the positive vibe while working with them on the sets,” he said.
