Illegal (Season 2) teaser: The courtroom drama starring Neha Sharma takes a political twist

The Voot web-series will see the actress pitted against the character played by Piyush Mishra.

Neha Sharma and Piyush Mishra in Illegal (Season 2)

The first season of Voot’s courtroom-cum-crime drama Illegal, directed by Sahir Raza, saw the young lawyer Niharika Singh (Neha Sharma) joining a law firm headed by Janardhan Jaitly aka JJ (Piyush Mishra). Circumstances end up pitting them against each other.

The second season, directed by Ashwini Chaudhary, will see Niharika and JJ continuing to butt heads, but with a twist, according to the teaser for the web-series. In the first season, the veteran lawyer had taken baby steps in the world of politics. In the new season, he is a full-fledged politician set to become the next chief minister of Delhi.

So, this time, it’s a battle between a young lawyer and a lawyer-turned-politician. A moment in the teaser also shows that there is a rift between JJ and his son Akshay (Akshay Oberoi), also a lawyer and, as we saw in Season 1, the ex-boyfriend of Niharika. Illegal (Season 2) also repeats Satyadeep Mishra, who continues with the character of the fiery lawyer Puneet. Parul Gulati and Tanuj Virwani are the new entrants in the show.

Going by the teaser, the second season seems to be a mix between a crime thriller and a political drama. It is unusual to see a rivalry between two diverse personalities like those played by Sharma and Mishra, but that is what adds to the interest.
