The upcoming SonyLIV web-series Rocket Boys (2021) details how Dr Homi Jehangir Bhabha and Dr Vikram Sarabhai set the framework to start India’s first institute on nuclear science.

Bhabha, who is also called the 'Father of India’s Nuclear Programme’, had a vision of the country becoming self-reliant through the use of nuclear energy. His tireless efforts and drive led India on to the world stage as a nuclear power.

On Bhabha's 112th birth anniversary on 30 October, the makers of the series paid tribute to the visionary nuclear physicist by showing how he pushed to create an institute where India’s brightest minds could gather.

In the clip, Bhabha, played by Jim Sarbh, demonstrates to his superiors the need for India to be independent in production and not rely on outsiders for goods. He sets forth his vision to make India’s first institute on fundamental research in atomic energy. “Everything is impossible until it isn’t,” he states in the clip.

Sarbh said, “If India is a prominent player in nuclear energy today, it is Dr Homi Jehangir Bhabha and his foresight we need to thank. On his special day, I am grateful to have the opportunity to play this extraordinary character in Abhay Pannu and SonyLIV’s upcoming show Rocket Boys.

“Bhabha’s contributions deeply impacted India’s scientific progress and, in the process, the lives of all of us Indians," the actor continued. "There are so many reasons to remember him. Experiencing a version of his life in this series has helped me to discover the vivid, multifaceted renaissance man that he was... charming, exacting, inscrutable and, above all, free. I can’t wait for you to watch him.”

Also starring Ishwak Singh as Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai, Rocket Boys has been created by Nikkhil Advani, Roy Kapur Films and Emmay Entertainment. The period series has been directed by Abhay Pannu.
