Every film begins with a small, even unlikely vision. The number of things that have to go right for a filmmaker to make a good film make the outcome almost a miracle.

Raj Nidimoru & Krishna DK's next production, Cinema Bandi (2021), captures this unlikely scenario, and how cinema is the common thread between the man on the street and the intellectual in his/her ivory tower.

The film, written by Vasanth Maringanti and directed by Praveen Kandregula, is among the early projects to be backed by the writer-director duo since they launched their new indie production house, D2R.

The trailer for the film begins with an autorickshaw driver finding an expensive camera left in his vehicle by a passenger. A local photographer tells him it is a movie camera. "The one used in films for Prabhas, Mahesh Babu," he adds. Armed with a seemingly distant dream, they set out to find their cast in the village.

The trailer captures the beautiful sense of idealism of filmmakers, and the occasional surrealism that they encounter. Funny, with its touch of realism and a bite of satire, Cinema Bandi's trailer is captivating. It also encompasses the independent filmmaker spirit and is definitely a promising film to look out for.

The film's trailer was shared on social media by veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee and by the producers. The film has been taken up by Netflix and will be released on the platform on 14 May.
