National award-winning film Tarikh to have world premiere on Hoichoi on 8 May


The acclaimed drama revolves around three characters, who represent idealism, conformism and realism.

Churni Ganguly’s National award-winning film Tarikh to be streamed on Hoichoi from 8 May. Starring Ritwick Chakraborty, Saswata Chatterjee, Raima Sen and Kaushik Ganguly, Tarikh is themed on friendship and the conflicts that arise out of idealism.

The film received the National Film Award for Best Screenplay (Dialogues) in 2019. Her debut film Nirbashito (2014) won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali in 2015.

Written by the director, Tarikh revolves around three characters, who represent idealism, conformism and realism. The film received Jury Special Mention Award at the 24th Kolkata International Film Festival in 2018. It also won the Best Indie Feature of 2019 and bagged Best Narrative Feature and Best Song at the Los Angeles Film Awards. The Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival honoured the film with the Best Editor, Best Actor (Female), and Best Screenplay Awards. The film was also the official selection at the BRICS Film Festival 2019, Brazil.

With a vision to entertain audiences from across the world with fresh content and new releases, Hoichoi is planning to have world premieres every month. In a statement, Soumya Mukherjee, vice-president, revenue and strategy of Hoichoi, said, “Hoichoi has become the destination of choice for audiences to watch new releases as well as quality content from Bengal. Last year, 40% of our overall subscription revenue came from international contribution, where people are most likely to consume Bengali classics and new world premieres.”

He added that this was merely the beginning. “We have an exciting line-up for our user base in the coming months, where there is something for everyone at Hoichoi.”
