Filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally reportedly opened up about his next project with Tamil star Vijay at a recent media interaction.
He confirmed that he will be joining hands with Vijay for a Telugu-Tamil bilingual project tentatively titled Thalapathy 66.
This project will mark Vijay’s foray into Telugu cinema. Until now, his Tamil releases were being dubbed and released in Telugu.
This will also be the first time Vijay stars in a bilingual project.
The film will be bankrolled by Dil Raju. An official announcement can be expected on 22 June, Vijay’s birthday. But the website pinkvilla.com reported that several fan accounts of actor Vijay took to Twitter today to confirm the project.
Vijay's latest film is Master (2021), which was released earlier this year and became the biggest Tamil grosser of 2021. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, it featured Vijay in the role of an alcoholic professor who goes on to reform students in a correctional facility.
Vamshi last directed the Telugu action-drama Maharshi (2019) starring Mahesh Babu. He was rumoured to join hands with Ram Charan next, but that did not happen.
The industry grapevine, however, insists Paidipally and Ram Charan will join hands for a new project that will go on the floors in a year or two. Apparently, both have been planning to work together again for a while. However, their respective schedules have prevented this. Paidipally had directed Ram Charan in the Telugu action drama Yevadu (2014).
