In Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele (2021), Anshuman Jha and Zareen Khan are two strangers, opposites in many ways, who become fast friends on a road trip from Delhi to McLeodganj, Himachal Pradesh.
Along the way, as they stop and enjoy the sights, they end up divulging quite a bit about their personal lives. Jha’s character is a gay man who has faced trouble coming out to his strict parents and seems to be in a secret relationship.
Meanwhile, Khan’s character is more open and in a relationship with a woman. Together, they help out one another.
The cast also comprises Gurfateh Pirzada, Jahnvi Rawat and Prabhleen Kaur. Directed by Harish Vyas, the feature film seems to have both light and heavy moments as it balances a ‘coming-out’ story with topics such as queer love and acceptance.
Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele, which closed the Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival last year, is due to be released on Disney+ Hotstar on 9 May.
