The annual awards ceremony for 2021 was held on 25 April due to the pandemic.
The eligibility period for films in consideration will be limited till 31 December. The academy had extended the deadline to 28 February in 2021, owing to the delay and shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, films in consideration will only have a period of 10 months to qualify between 1 March and 31 December 2021.
The academy has reinstated the eligibility requirements, in view of the ongoing pandemic, to the addendums introduced last year. This ensures that films that could not be released theatrically and were hence put out digitally will also be eligible for qualifying for the competition.
In addition, the Governor's Awards, which were cancelled in 2021, will be reinstated.
