Sohum Shah has acted in critically acclaimed films such as Ship of Theseus (2013), Talvar (2015) and Tumbbad (2018), as well as the series Bard of Blood. Although all the roles he has essayed are dissimilar, they share a trait— they are all serious.
Asked if he would be open to doing a comedy film, he said, "Yes for sure. In fact, my next film is a silent comedy film. I'm really excited about it. Comedy is my favourite genre. As you said, up until now, I have only done serious roles and because of that there is a perception that I'm a very serious actor and only like to do those kinds of roles, but I'm not a very serious person at all."
Opening up about his upcoming projects, he said, "I'm also doing a show with Reema Kagti called Fallen which will be streamed on Amazon Prime. In that series also you will see me do a little bit of comedy."
Although Shah is busy with his acting projects, he is still looking to produce unique ideas and projects. "I am making an anthology of ten horror films. We are making it for OTT but no platform has been locked yet. Of the ten films, we have shot three of them; the remaining are yet to be shot."
Asked about the upcoming sequel to the critically-acclaimed period horror film Tumbbad, Shah revealed that things were in the ideation stage. "We have three to four ideas but nothing is locked yet. So it's too early to say anything now," he said.
Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, Tumbbad saw Shah play a greedy man in search of a hidden treasure in 20th century British India. The film received critical acclaim and has achieved cult status.
The actor is currently awaiting the release of his web-series Maharani, headlined by Huma Qureshi. Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the political drama is set in Bihar in the 1990s and will feature Shah as a politician and Qureshi's husband.
Also starring Amit Sial, Kani Kusruti and Vineet Kumar, the show will be streamed on SonyLIV from 28 May.
