Ban The Family Man 2 for slandering Tamils, says actor-politician Seeman

Seeman claimed that the second season of the web-series seeks to portray the LTTE as an extremist organization and Tamils as violent.

Actor-politician Seeman today released a statement warning the makers of The Family Man 2 against streaming the show. Seeman said the web-series should be banned for allegedly slandering Tamils and showing them in a poor light.

Seeman took to Twitter to share his statement and warned that failure to cancel the release of the series would "lead to the worst reactions”.

Seeman’s statement in Tamil, translated into English, says: 'The preview of the web-series The Family Man 2, the release of which has been announced on Amazon Prime, and the visuals in it are shocking. It is clear that the series, which portrays the LTTE [the now defunct Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam] as extremists and seeks to portray Tamils as violent, has been created with full intent and violence against Tamils.

'It is no coincidence that the plot of the Hindi version of the series has been shifted to Chennai, in which an Eelam woman is portrayed as a militant and the colour of her dress resembles that of the LTTE uniform, with references to the militant group and the Pakistani ISI [Inter Services Intelligence].

'In a situation where two lakh Tamils in Eelam have been slaughtered by the tyranny of Sinhala chauvinism, the attempt to portray as extremists the Tamils who stand as the greatest democrats and seek justice in the world through charitable and legal struggles is highly reprehensible.

'As soon as the preview of the series, which was created to mislead Tamils, was released, Tamils all over the world were recording their reaction and condemnation with anger and turmoil,' the statement continued.

'Therefore, I urge the complete abolition of the telecast of this series, which seeks to portray the Tamil people on the brink of extinction as ... violent extremists.... I warn that there will be dire repercussions if The Family Man 2 is broadcast on the internet and tries to misrepresent Tamils across the country.'

The trailer for The Family Man 2 was released earlier this week. The web-series by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK stars Manoj Bajpayee while the second season also stars Samantha Akkineni as a Sri Lankan Tamil rebel. The show is set to be premiered on 4 June.
