Actress Sonalee Kulkarni made a special announcement on her birthday yesterday. She revealed that she and fiance Kunal Benodekar had got married on 7 May at an intimate ceremony in Dubai, UAE.
Sharing a few pictures from the wedding on Instagram, Kulkarni explained why she opted for an intimate event.
"So we were about to get married in the UK in June," she said. "Due to the second wave of the coronavirus in the UK, we had to postpone our wedding and chose a date in July based on the availability of a venue.
"Came to Dubai after completing my shoots in March to plan our wedding preparation and the second wave hit India and I got stuck in Dubai. In April, the UK banned visitors from India owing to the pandemic.
"Thinking about quarantining, travel restrictions, risks to our families and several other factors, we both decided to cancel our lavish wedding."
The couple got married at a Hindu temple in Dubai and invited their relatives virtually. Talking about keeping her wedding a close-knit affair, Kulkarni said, "The wedding was postponed from June to July. So we thought we would surprise everyone and got married in May! Now, we are in one country and don't know what will happen. After seeing the current situation worldwide, we can't celebrate our wedding. Rather than spending on a big ceremony, we would love to donate that money."
Last year on her birthday, Kulkarni had surprised everyone by announcing her engagement with Benodekar.
On the work front, Kulkarni was judging the television reality show Yuva Dancing Queen with choreographer Mayur Vaidya. She has a few films like Date Bhet, Jhimma, Fresh Lime Soda, Parinati and Rani Tarabai lined up for release.
