Actor Jisshu Sengupta and music composer-turned-director Indraadip Dasgupta have arranged for a safe home for COVID-19 patients near the Lake Market area in Kolkata.

The safe home, currently accommodating 20 beds, starts functioning from today. Patients will be able to avail of doctor consultation, oxygen supplies, free medicines and food.

Speaking about the initiative to The Times of India, an English daily, Sengupta said, “I am doing what is expected of me as a human being in this hour of crisis. The idea of this safe home may have come from me, but it would not have been possible without Devlina Kumar’s father Debasish-da's help. Debasish Kumar is a legislator from the ruling Trinamool Congress.

“When cases were rising and people were desperately looking for beds and oxygen, Indraadip and I thought of doing something for COVID-hit families," he said. "We decided to be on the field to help them."

Initially, the duo had difficulty finding a suitable place for the safe home. However, after Sengupta contacted actress Devlina, she fixed an appointment with her father and the latter made the arrangements within two days.

The actor also mentioned that they are working to solve the various crises one by one. The oxygen supply crisis has been solved with a few people coming forward to help. Currently, they are struggling find nurses to tend to the patients.

Applauding those young individuals who have been actively helping COVID-19 patients across the state, Dasgupta said, “We are trying to set up this safe home, where we can provide initial medical attention to COVID patients. We will keep the patients till their oxygen level is 90 and if the level dips, they will be shifted to hospital.”
